Something is fishy 🐟 with @robertrieger

The month of March brought Dalad Kambhu two reasons to celebrate: International Women's Day marked the one-year anniversary of the first-time owner and head chef's elegant and delectable restaurant, Kin Dee.

On a very cold Berlin evening, Kin Dee is a bright, warm retreat, full of robust flavours and bold Thai aromas (try the Massaman Lamb Shank, you won't be disappointed). Born and raised in Bangkok, Kambhu, who is a self-trained cook, lived in New York for a decade before deciding to move to Berlin to open her first restaurant with artist Rirkrit Tiravanija. Tiravanjia—whose artwork often involves the context of shared meals—helped pioneer a sharing set menu at Kin Dee, and provided the sort of brotherly mentorship that encouraged Kambhu to start cooking for herself.

As a young woman in Germany with no formal training, Kambhu’s cooking caught the attention of her current partners and restaurateurs Moritz Estermann and Stephan Landwehr from the infamous Berlin fine dining institutions, Grill Royal and Pauly Saal. Months later—after a very successful two-week pop-up at the restaurant Dóttir—Kambhu, her partners, and Berlin was ready for a new woman and restaurant on the block, which became Kin Dee.

Stay tuned for Dalad’s home, home town spots in Bangkok.
